This two-day workshop will focus on the underlying concepts and mechanisms for creating performance-based parametric systems. The objective of this workshop is to provide participants with both the conceptual and technical framework through which to better understand the relevant application of Parametric Design to the various design problems they will encounter in professional practice.

Digital content will be delivered through the parametric modeling plug-in Grasshopper for Rhino 3D with additional supporting plug-ins and add-ons as required.

In this class you'll learn to create and edit accurate free-form 3-D NURBS models. This fast-moving class covers most of Rhino's functionality, including the most advanced surfacing commands. In addition, you'll learn concepts and features of Grasshopper at an accelerated pace in an instructor-led hands-on instruction environment. The advantages of using Grasshopper in preliminary design and concept development come to life since the students will be able to create their models on a Type A Machines' Series 1 3D printer.

Note:  There will be special pricing and promotions on the Type A Machines and Rhino 5 for the participants at the workshop.

The first three days will cover Rhino Level II with a focus on building surfaces from existing data, and it is assumed that the student has at least a basic working knowledge of Rhino. The fourth day will focus on the full suite of marine design and analysis functionality available in Orca3D. It will cover hull design and fairing, hydrostatics and stability, resistance prediction, and weight and cost tracking. Note that you may register for one or both of the courses.

2013年9月3日、中央イタリアのヴィテルボでユネスコの世界文化遺産への登録手続きが進められている13世紀から続くイベントが行われ、30mの塔、FioredelCielo - La Macchina di Santa Rosaが細い通りに運ばれました。
 
FioredelCieloは2人の航空宇宙設計士、Arturo VittoriとAndreas Vogler （Architecture and Vision創始者）によるデザインで優勝したコンペの名前で、Rhinoを使ってデザインされました。
 
キャンドルの炎、コンピューター制御された1200以上のLED、塔から降り注ぐ無数のバラの花びらが、洗練された感動的なシーンの演出に貢献しています。

現代社会が直面している主な課題の中には、環境の崩壊と損傷した生息地の修復に関係しているものがあります。世界規模のサンゴ危機を減速させることはできるでしょうか？被害を受けやすい海岸線や生息地を危機にさらす人の活動によって、海岸エリアの珊瑚礁は破壊され続けています。
Seascape Prototype #1はコンピューテーショナルデザインとエコマニュファクチャリングの水中実験です。自己再生、自己修復する自立した水中構造物は、ミネラルの付着プロセスを利用して生み出されました。

Rhino 3Dは物理的形状探索の手順をコンピューターベースの解析、シミュレーション、スキャン、製造に組み込み、プロセスやマテリアルがデザイン形状をどう生成するかをさらに探ることができるパワフルなツールです。

Scan&Solve 2013 for Rhino WIPのグリッド表示を使うと、解像度を可視化できるようになります。シミュレーションが実行されるコンピューターグリッドです。このツールはシミュレーションを設定する際、解像度を選択するガイドとして使うことができ、シミュレーション結果のトラブル箇所を特定する診断ツールとしての機能も果たします。またScan&Solve 2013 for Rhino WIPの新機能には、凡例を表示するフォントと色を選択できる機能があります。

FORMHERR – 2013年レッド・ドット プロダクトデザイン賞を受賞

Formherr Industriedesign社、Rhinoのプロユーザーで認定トレーナーがRed Dot Product Design Award 2013を受賞しました。 受賞プロジェクト、Dräger Safety AGに依頼された消防ヘルメットは、安全性や革新的な装備との一体性、さらに装着時の快適性や見た目の美しさ等、数多くの難しい条件を兼ね備える必要があったため、挑戦的なものでした。
ヘルメット全て完全にRhinoでモデリングされました。

John Boone、Gorman-Rupp Pump Co.のインターン

学生の価値を過小評価してはいけません。 最近Boston Valley Terra Cottaプロジェクトのリンクをご紹介しましたが、この復元を行った事務所はすぐにBoston Valley Terra Cottaのデザイナーや彫刻家が新しいハイテクツールを導入したのはUniversity of Buffalo（Architecture Department）のおかげだと評価しました。

オハイオでも似たようなことが起こっています。Ontario High Schoolの教師であるBruce Weirichから聞いた話によると、彼が担当したRhinoクラスの元教え子がGorman-Rupp Pump Co.でインターンをしているそうです。Tyler Lasusaとオハイオ州立大学の学生2人は、従来の方法に新たな視点を加えながら3Dモデリングの部署で働いています。

Level 2 Rhino 5 オンラインコースが8月19-29日に行われました。コースはRhino 5 向けにアップデートし、月曜日のオリエンテーションに続いて半日6回のRhino 5トレーニングを行う7セッションで構成されました。
